2017 Spring Creek Trout Camp a Success

SPRING CREEK — Young would-be anglers recently gathered just outside of Elko for an opportunity to learn about fly-fishing through the 3rd Annual Northern Nevada Trout Unlimited Youth Camp.

A dozen pre-teen boys and girls, ages 10-12, learned about fly casting, fly tying, hooking and landing fish, aquatic insects and conservation over a two-day camp.

Every attendee at the camp hooked a fish and almost all landed one as part of their experience.

“They all left the camp with a desire to learn more about fly fishing, conservation and taking care of the resources that make it possible,” said Sam Sedillo, the Sierra-Cascades Field Coordinator for Trout Unlimited and organizer of the event.

Partnerships with the Elko Fly Shop, Adamsbuilt Fishing, Kinross Bald Mountain, Montana Fly Company and the Spring Creek Association helped make the event memorable for all involved.

“Kinross Bald Mountain was thrilled to be part of the Trout Unlimited Youth Fly Fishing Camp this year. We are proud to support their mission in exposing youth to the value of Nevada’s natural resources and the responsibility that goes along with preserving them,” said Kinross Bald Mountain spokesperson Alissa Wood. “We look forward to continuing to support this program in the future.”

So does Trout Unlimited.

“Trout Unlimited knows the future is all about youth,” said Pam Harrington, the Nevada Field Coordinator for Trout Unlimited. “We are proud to invest in kids with partners like those supporting this camp. It is all about letting them be kids and learning about natural Nevada.”
